How to Brine Pork Chops
Brine is a simple salt and water mixture that helps to add flavor and moisture to pork chops. When you brine pork chops you’ll find they cook up more tender and juicy—a delicious way to switch up your dinner routine. Here’s how to brine pork chops:
- Choose how you want to brine your pork chops. You can make a simple salty brine, or add herbs, sugar, or other seasonings. The basic ratio for a brine is 1 cup of salt (or a mixture of salt and seasonings) to 1 gallon of water.
- Combine the salt and water in a container large enough to fit the pork chops. A large snap-lock bag is often used. Gently dissolve the salt in the water and stir to mix.
- Add the pork chops to the brine. Make sure all the pieces are completely submerged in the water. You can also place a plate or some other heavy weight on them to ensure they all stay below the surface.
- Cover the container with a lid, or if using a bag, snap the lid shut. Place the container in the refrigerator and allow the pork chops to brine for at least two hours.
- Heat your grill or oven for cooking. Remove the pork chops from the brine, discard the brine, and pat the pork chops dry with a paper towel.
- Cook the pork chops as desired. Pork chops can be grilled, pan-seared, baked, or roasted.
Once you master brining pork chops, you’ll be sure to find a delicious way to change up your evening meal. Brining is a quick and easy way to add flavor and moisture to your dinner table.
