How to Make a Fever Break
Having a fever can be uncomfortable and make everyday tasks difficult to accomplish. Fortunately, there are some methods that you can try at home to help relieve a fever.
Steps:
- Monitor your temperature regularly with a thermometer and keep a log of your temperature readings.
- Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. Water, clear broth, and electrolyte-infused sports drinks can be particularly helpful.
- Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen as directed, as both of these medications can help reduce fever.
- If your fever is particularly uncomfortable, consider taking a lukewarm bath for 15-20 minutes. Do not add any products like bubbles or oils to the water, as this can cause scalding.
- Dress in light layers of clothing and if your temperature continues to rise, consider removing layers of clothing.
- If your fever is not gone after two days, contact your doctor.
