How to Make a Fever Break

Having a fever can be uncomfortable and make everyday tasks difficult to accomplish. Fortunately, there are some methods that you can try at home to help relieve a fever.

Steps:

  1. Monitor your temperature regularly with a thermometer and keep a log of your temperature readings.
  2. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. Water, clear broth, and electrolyte-infused sports drinks can be particularly helpful.
  3. Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen as directed, as both of these medications can help reduce fever.
  4. If your fever is particularly uncomfortable, consider taking a lukewarm bath for 15-20 minutes. Do not add any products like bubbles or oils to the water, as this can cause scalding.
  5. Dress in light layers of clothing and if your temperature continues to rise, consider removing layers of clothing.
  6. If your fever is not gone after two days, contact your doctor.
