Natural Ways To Cure A Fever At Home

Fever is a common symptom of various illnesses and can be an indication of your body's response to infection. As long as fever does not reach a high point, it is sometimes best to fight the fever naturally with home remedies.

What You Need

  • Cool or lukewarm baths or showers
  • Lukewarm drinks such as water or herbal tea
  • Cool wet cloths applied to the forehead, armpits, and/or groin
  • Over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen

Instructions

  • Take a cool or lukewarm bath or shower to soothe the body and reduce fever.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking lukewarm drinks such as water or herbal teas. Avoid using cold drinks, as this could cause shivering, which will raise body temperature.
  • Dampen a few cloths with cool water and wring them out. Place the cloths on the forehead, armpits, and/or groin to reduce body temperature.
  • Take over-the-counter medications to help reduce fever. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help reduce a fever. Speak with a healthcare provider before administering medication to children.
  • It is recommended to rest, get plenty of sleep, and allow the fever to run its course. Prolonged or excessive fevers should be addressed by a healthcare provider.
