Getting Rid of Garden Slugs with Salt

Garden slugs can be a pesky problem for gardeners and can cause significant damage to flowers and other plants. Salt can be a safe and effective method of getting rid of garden slugs.

Using Salt to Kill Slugs

In order to use salt to eliminate slugs, you will need:

  • Salt
  • Water
  • A container for mixing
  • A small cup or spoon

To begin, mix water and salt in a container in equal parts. Stir until the salt has dissolved completely.

Once your mixture is ready, use the cup or spoon to distribute it around the affected plant or plants. Take care to evenly coat the ground and plants, avoiding direct contact with the leaves or flowers, as this can cause damage. If you prefer, you can opt to sprinkle the salt directly onto the slugs.

Once the salt is applied, the slugs will die from dehydration within a day or two. Discard the slugs and repeat the process if needed.

Tips

When using salt to kill garden slugs, it is important to take steps to protect plants. Salt can dehydrate plants, so limit the amount you use and make sure not to get the salt directly on the leaves or flowers.
