Seasoning Firewood
Seasoning firewood is an important process that will ensure a better burn and cleaner smoke. Before using firewood in your home, it must be dried out properly, otherwise, it may cause smoky fires. Here’s how to season firewood:
- Stack the wood in an open air environment, such as a woodpile, for up to one year.
- Make sure the wood is not in direct contact with the ground or wet.
- Sunlight will help to speed up the drying process.
- Check if the firewood is properly seasoned if it is light in weight and has greyish-looking white surfaces around the end of the wood.
- Inspect the wood periodically to ensure the moisture content is dropping.
