How to Reduce Swelling in Feet

Are your feet feeling swollen, tight, and uncomfortable? Swelling in your feet is a common occurrence, especially if you’re on your feet a lot or are pregnant. But if you have any worries about your swelling, it’s always best to consult with your doctor. Here are some tips to help reduce swelling in your feet.

  • Rest and elevate your feet. Take a break and sit or lie down, and put your feet up a pillow or two. This will reduce high pressure on your feet, helping the swelling to go down.
  • Stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of fluids helps reduce swelling, as it moves fluids away from your feet. Plus, it's good for your overall health, too. Aim for six to eight glasses of water a day, and consider adding citric juices into your diet.
  • Use compression socks or stockings. Compression socks help reduce swelling in feet by constricting the tiny vessels in your feet and improving circulation.
  • Lie down with your feet slightly raised. Lying down and propping your feet up on a few pillows can reduce swelling. Ensure your pillow is comfortable and that your feet are elevated above your heart.
  • Consider trying natural remedies. Natural diuretics, such as parsley, nettle, and dandelion, can be helpful in reducing swelling. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist for more advice before trying any of these.
  • Massage your feet before bed. Massaging your feet in circular motions with some natural oils, such as olive oil, can help reduce swelling. Finish your foot massage by giving yourself an ice massage, using an ice cube to roll over your feet.

These tips should help reduce mild swelling in feet, but if your swelling persists or grows worse, you should contact your doctor.
