How to Make Tofu

Tofu is a versatile, nutritious food that makes a tasty addition to meals. Making it from scratch is simple and takes just a few ingredients. Here’s how to do it:

Ingredients

  • 6 cups fresh soy milk
  • 1/3 cup lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup cold water

Instructions

  1. In a large pot over medium heat, bring the soy milk to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for several minutes.
  2. Once the milk is at a simmer, add the lemon juice. Simmer for two more minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the cold water. This will cause the milk to curdle.
  4. Strain out any solid particles. Place the strainer onto a bowl and pour the curdled mixture through it. The particles will be caught and the strained liquid will be the liquid tofu.
  5. Allow the liquid tofu to rest in the strainer for 30 minutes to 1 hour. This will allow the remaining liquid to strain out.
  6. Carefully scoop the tofu out of the strainer and place in a dish. Refrigerate and use within two days.
