How to Cook Extra Firm Tofu

Tofu is a versatile ingredient that can be cooked in a variety of ways and takes on the flavor of a variety of seasonings. Extra firm tofu is the perfect foundation for stir-fries and other cooked dishes. With a few simple steps, you can quickly and easily prepare extra firm tofu for your favorite recipes.

Instructions

  1. Remove the extra firm tofu from the container and place it on a cutting board. Slice the tofu into cubes, slices or other desired shapes.
  2. Place the tofu pieces into a colander or strainer and rinse with cool water. Allow the water to drain off the tofu.
  3. Line a baking sheet with a double layer of paper towels or a dish towel. Arrange the tofu on the towel so that it's in a single layer.
  4. Cover the tofu with a second layer of paper towels or a dish towel. Place a heavy object, such as a cast iron skillet, on the towels to drain the remaining moisture from the tofu.
  5. After about 30 minutes, remove the heavy object. The tofu is ready to be cooked in your favorite recipe.
