How a Gas Pump Knows When to Shut Off

When you're at the gas station, it's always nice to have your tank filled up and ready to go. But how does the gas station know when to shut off the fuel? It all comes down to sophisticated components inside the fuel pump.

First, there is a float inside the fuel pump. This floats in the fuel and shows the current level of the fuel. When the fuel reaches a certain level, the float triggers a signal for the pump to stop.

The gas pump also contains valves that can open and close as needed. These are tied into the fuel pump’s wiring to control the flow of fuel. When a valve opens, the fuel flows freely from the tank. When it's time to turn off the pump, the valve will close and the fuel will stop flowing.

Finally, a timer is used to time how long the pump has been running. As soon as the timer reaches the preset time, it will automatically shut the pump off.

Using these three components, the gas pump is able to accurately know when to shut off the fuel. This ensures that customers get the exact amount of fuel they need without any spillage.
