Pause the Horn Without Disconnecting It

In the case of an unusually loud or persistent car horn, the first line of defense should be to stop it from sounding without disconnecting it.

  • Find a way to wedge something in between the horn and the steering wheel. Use something thin that won't damage the material of the steering wheel and won't leave an imprint.
  • Be sure to warn others that you are disabling the horn. Chances are, they can already hear it.

Disconnect the Horn

If wedgeing your horn fails, it may be best to disconnect it temporarily until you can get your car to the mechanic.

  • Open the hood of the car. Look for the horn mounted close to the firewall.
  • On the back of the horn, you will find the two electrical connectors. Disconnect both connectors from the back of the horn.
  • Secure the wires so they do not accidently touch each other and cause a short.
  • Now the horn should not sound even if someone accidentally honks the horn.
