When someone is feeling down, don't despair! There are many simple ways to help them get back in a good mood and feel supported.

Tips for Making Someone Feel Better

  • Listen to them. Let them talk and don't judge. Just listening will show that you care.
  • Let them know that you're there for them. Even if you can't do something directly to help the situation, showing your support will help.
  • Do something small and special for them. Whether it's bringing a cup of coffee or something more tangible, this kind gesture will help them know that you appreciate them.
  • Encourage them to take care of themselves. This may include physical activities, healthy eating, or things that they enjoy doing. Allowing them to do something they enjoy is often as beneficial as anything.
  • Be positive. It's often easier said than done. Remind them of the good things in life and that things will get better.
  • Offer your advice, when asked. If someone does want advice, give it in a supportive and non-judgmental way.

By doing some or all of the above, you can easily help someone feel better. It won't always be an easy process—but the effort will sure be worth it.
