Tips to Reduce Prostate Enlargement Naturally

Enlarged prostate, also called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is a common condition in older men. While it may cause urinary hesitancy and other bothersome symptoms, medication or surgery are not necessarily needed to reduce the size of the prostate because there are several natural ways to minimize its effects.

  • Check your diet. Eating a healthy diet especially low in fat and rich in omega-3 fatty acids, like fatty fish, as well as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, can help reduce the size of an enlarged prostate. Also reduce the amount of dairy and high-fat red meats which can irritate the prostate.
  • Alternate warm and cold water on the prostate area. Soaking in a warm-water bath for 20-30 minutes and then alternating with a cold-water bath can help reduce the inflammation associated with an enlarged prostate. Do this two or three times a day for a few weeks.
  • Do aerobic exercises regularly. Exercise at a moderate level for 30 minutes three or four times a week to reduce prostate enlargement. Aerobic exercises will increaseorgan efficiency and help reduce inflammation in the prostate.
  • Practice yoga to reduce inflammation in the prostate. Certain poses in yoga can help reduce inflammation and stress levels which can be a contributing factor to an enlarged prostate.
  • Drink plenty of water. Drink eight to 10 glasses of water per day to flush out toxins and reduce the size of an enlarged prostate.
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol. Caffeinated drinks like tea, coffee and energy drinks may irritate the prostate and exacerbate BPH symptoms. Eliminate alcohol from your diet to reduce its effects on the prostate.
  • Take herbs to optimize prostate health. Certain herbs like saw palmetto, pygeum, and stinging nettle have been found to be effective in reducing the size of an enlarged prostate and improve urinary flow.
