How to Fix a Splotchy Bleach Job

Bleaching hair is a great way to lighten or brighten your look. However, if you get a bad bleach job, it can result in an uneven and splotchy outcome.Read on to learn how to fix a splotchy bleach job.

Steps

  • Wait a few days before making any further changes. Wait to act until you are sure that the current bleached area won’t lighten or fade any further. This waiting period also gives your hair a chance to recover.
  • Gently rub the splotchy areas with a clarifying shampoo. Be sure to only use a gentle shampoo and not an 'anti-dandruff’ type. This can help even out the color so it is not so patchy.
  • Apply a toner (if your hair is light enough). Toners are designed to correct unwanted colors. You want to avoid going to a dramatically different color, so you need to research the right toner for your hair.
  • Put your hair in a cap and apply some heat. You can do this with a blow dryer or a heating cap. This helps the dye settle in evenly and can be used with toner applications assisting with breakage.
  • Rinse with cold water and condition. This helps the hair to stay healthy and can also help to counter any brassy or yellow tones.
  • Maintain your hair regularly. Use a heat protector spray before styling with heat, and a deep moisturizing conditioner every 2-3 weeks.
