Importing a PST File into Thunderbird

It is easy to import a PST file into Thunderbird, the open-source email client from Mozilla. By importing your PST file, you can transfer emails, contacts, and other email data between different email programs and accounts.

Steps for Importing a PST File into Thunderbird

  1. Install the program “Microsoft Office Outlook Connector” on your computer, which can be found on the Microsoft website.

  2. Open Thunderbird and select the “Tools” menu. Select “Import”, and then “Import from another program or file”.

  3. Open Outlook Connector and select the PST file you wish to import from the File menu.

  4. Select the mail folders you want to import and choose “Import” from the File menu.

  5. Go to Thunderbird and click “Finish”. Your selected PST file should be imported into your Thunderbird account.

Tips

  • Be sure that you are using the correct version of Outlook Connector for your version of Outlook.
  • Make a back-up of your data before taking any importing files.
  • Outlook Express users should export emails to Outlook and then use the steps above to import into Thunderbird.
