How to Make Chocolate Frosting

Making a delicious, chocolatey frosting is easier than you think! All you'll need is the following simple ingredients and minimalist tools:

  • ¼ cup of cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ cup of unsalted butter
  • 3 to 3 ½ cups of powdered sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon of almond extract (optional)
  • 2 to 6 tablespoons of milk
  • Bowl
  • Stand or hand mixer

Instructions

  1. Combine cocoa powder, salt, butter, almond extract, and 2 tablespoons of the milk into the bowl.
  2. With a stand or hand mixer, blend until the ingredients are smooth.
  3. Add the powdered sugar in ½-cup increments. Start with 3 cups and if desired, add extra ½ cup increments until the desired sweetness level is achieved.
  4. Mix on low speed to combine all ingredients.
  5. The desired consistency of the frosting can now be achieved. If too thick, add remaining tablespoons of milk 1 at a time until the desired consistency is achieved.

Your chocolate frosting is now ready to be used on cakes, cupcakes, and any other sweet treats!
