How to Make DIY Puffed Rice

Making puffed rice is easier than you think! All you need are a few ingredients, and you’ll be ready to make tasty, fluffy snacks in no time. Here are two simple methods you can use to make puffed rice with or without oil.

Method 1: No-Oil Puffed Rice

  • Heat a shallow skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add 1/4 cup raw rice to the skillet and spread out into an even layer.
  • Stir the rice continuously with a wooden spoon, for 3 - 5 minutes, or until the rice starts to puffs up and turn yellow.
  • Remove the rice from the skillet and transfer to a bowl to cool.

Method 2: Puffed Rice with Oil

  • Pour 1/4 cup of oil into a deep pan and heat over medium-high heat.
  • When the oil is hot, add 1/4 cup of raw rice to the pan and stir continuously.
  • The rice should puff up in a few minutes. Be careful not to overcook the rice or it will burn.
  • When the rice is a golden yellow color, remove it from the pan and transfer to a bowl to cool.
