How to Remove Built-Up Frost From Your Freezer

Frost build-up in your freezer can cause inefficiency, affect the quality of food, take up storage space, and increase your energy bill. Follow these steps to remove built-up frost from your freezer in no time.

  1. Unplug your freezer from the wall or turn off the power switch to ensure safety.
  2. Remove all food from the freezer including shelves and drawers. Place the food in bags and store in cooler or on ice.
  3. Turn the freezer temperature setting to its highest setting. This will help the frost to melt faster.
  4. Leave the door of the freezer open to allow the frost to melt naturally or use a blowdryer to speed up the defrosting process. Make sure to keep the blowdryer at least three feet away from the freezer interior and walls so as to not damage the appliance.
  5. Use a sponge to wipe up excess water caused by melting ice.
  6. Once ice has completely melted, turn the freezer temperature back to normal and return all food items to the freezer.
  7. Regularly keeping up with regular maintenance of your freezer is the best way to avoid the hassle of extensive built-up frost.
