How to Mount a Pegboard

Pegboard is a very versatile home organizational tool used for storage and organizing items in a workshop, utility area, garage, or other places inside and outside the house. Follow the steps below to get a pegboard up and mounted on the wall:

  1. Measure the walls where the pegboard will be mounted. Measurement should include any obstacles in the wall such as windows, outlets, baseboards, etc. Pegboard size should account for any obstacles present in the walls.
  2. Cut out the pegboard to the desired size within the measurements taken. It is best to use a jigsaw or reciprocating saw with a specialized pegboard blade.
  3. Drill two pilot holes at the top and the bottom of the pegboard, then thread a length of rope through the holes.
  4. Lift the pegboard onto the wall, centering its position in the proposed mounting area. Make sure the cords or ropes remain attached so the pegboard can stay at the same level.
  5. Get heavy-duty screws and insert these into the wall to secure the pegboard in place.
  6. Cut drywall anchors to the size needed and use these anchors to screw the pegboard into studs or wall joists.

Once the pegboard is secured to the wall, start organizing your items using wall covers and hooks. Congratulations, you have successfully mounted a pegboard!
