Eight Steps for Retrieving Your Lost Phone

Whether your phone has gone missing under the couch cushions or has been missing a while, it's very possible to get it back. Here's how:

  • Check your account to see if the phone is still connected to the network. Many cellphone providers can track the lost device's approximate location.
  • Check your home, car, and places you usually leave your phone. Your device could have fallen behind furniture or may have been taken unknowingly by another family member.
  • Call your phone. Someone may have picked your phone up and not realize it’s yours. Ask them to let you talk to the person who found the phone, as they may be able to help.
  • Retrace your steps. Think of where you’ve been recently and speak to the staff in those places to find out if your phone was found.
  • Scour websites and apps. Use sites such as Craigslist and apps like Find My iPhone or Android Device Manager to recover the phone.
  • Talk to the police. If you’re unable to locate your phone on your own, the police may be able to help you recover it.
  • Change your passwords. If you have an account with the phone or the Android/Apple store, switch your passwords to make sure that no one can access your information.
  • Purchase a new phone. If you don't think you can get your phone back, your final option is to just replace it.
