  2. Pretreat: Use a prewash spot treatment solution on the affected area.
  3. Launder: Use the warmest water possible for the fabric and select a long wash cycle.
  4. Dry: Put the item in a clothes dryer for 45 to 60 minutes on the highest, hottest temperature setting.
  5. Check the stain: After taking the clothing out, check to make sure the stain has gone. If the stain remains, repeat the steps.

Mold can accumulate on clothing over time and create an unsightly and smelly mess. Thankfully, with a few simple steps, you can remove mold from clothing and get your garments looking and smelling fresh again.

Instructions

  1. Soak the affected clothing in cold water for 10-15 minutes. This will help to loosen the mold up and make it easier to remove.
  2. Once the clothing is soaked, mix a solution of one part laundry detergent and four parts water in a bucket. Submerge the clothing in the mixture and let it soak for 1-2 hours.
  3. Once the clothing has finished soaking, remove it from the detergent mixture and wash in a washing machine with a hot water cycle.
  4. When the wash cycle is complete add 3/4 cup of either borax or white vinegar to the load. Repeat the wash cycle.
  5. Once the final wash cycle is finished, hang the clothing outside in direct sunlight to dry. Don't put the clothing in a dryer as this can set the mold in the fabric.
  6. After the clothing is dry inspect it to ensure that all the mold has been removed.
