Adjusting Your Mouse Polling Rate on PC & Mac

Are you noticing lag with your mouse making it difficult to keep up with what’s happening on the screen? Adjusting the polling rate of your mouse could help improve the responsiveness. Whether you’re using a PC or a Mac, you can follow these easy steps to tweak the mouse to your needs.

PC

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
  2. Find the “Mouse” control panel option and click it.
  3. On the top toolbar, click the “Pointer Options” tab.
  4. At the bottom, adjust the polling rate from “Default” to any of the other two options.
  5. If your mouse isn’t appearing in the list of available devices, it may not be supported for rate adjusting.

Mac

  1. Go to “System Preferences” and click the “Mouse” category.
  2. In the Preferences window, look for the “Point & Click” tab.
  3. Set the “Tracking speed” slider to a level that suits your needs.
  4. Note that not all mouse devices allow you to adjust the polling rate on a Mac.
