Deleting items you don't want to part with from your computer

Spending time on your computer can lead to collecting a wide range of items such as music, videos, photos and documents, and if it has been some time since you organised your files, chances are your computer is full of items you don't want to be without. Fortunately, you can easily remove the items you don't want to part with without losing any of your important data.

Instructions

  1. Locate the desktop or the folder containing the files and folders you want to keep.
  2. Create a folder on your computer's hard drive to store the items you don't want to part with. Name it something like ‘Important items’.
  3. Drag and drop, or cut and paste, the items that you don't want to delete permanently into your ‘Important Items’ folder.
  4. Highlight the files that you have moved by pressing Ctrl and A simultaneously and then hit Delete.
  5. Go to your computer's recycle bin to make sure the items you intended to delete have gone into the recycled items folder.
  6. Right click on the Recycle Bin icon and select 'Empty Recycle Bin' to delete the items permanently.
