Treating No-See-Um Bites: Simple Home Remedies to Try

No-see-ums are small biting insects, like sand flies and midges, that are almost invisible to the naked eye. But despite their size, these pests can cause itchy, annoying bites. To get some relief, here are a few simple home remedies to try.

Cool Compress

Wrap some ice in a clean cloth and apply it to the bite for up to 20 minutes. This will both reduce itching and swelling.

Antihistamine Cream

Antihistamine creams can help reduce the swelling and itching caused by no-see-um bites. You may be able to find over-the-counter creams in your local drug store. Make sure to read the labels and directions carefully before applying.

Baking Soda

Create a paste by mixing a teaspoon of baking soda with a few drops of water. Spread a thin layer of the paste onto the bite, and allow it to dry. You should then rinse it off with warm water. Repeat twice a day for relief.

Lavender Essential Oil

Dilute a few drops of lavender essential oil in a little bit of warm water. Apply the mixture directly onto the affected area with a cotton pad. Lavender oil is known to reduce inflammation and itching.

Tea Tree Oil

Mix a few drops of tea tree oil with water, and dab it onto the affected area with a cotton pad. While tea tree oil is known to help soothe itching, it can cause skin irritation in some cases.
