How to Level a Washing Machine

Your washing machine should be properly leveled to ensure optimal performance. If it is not level, it may vibrate or become noisy during the cycle. Additionally, an unlevel machine may damage the internal components of your appliance over time. Don't worry, knowing how to make sure your washing machine is level is simple, and only requires a few steps.

Steps:

  1. Check your laundry room or area for levelness. Move the washing machine so that it is close to level.
  2. Place carpenter's level on the top of the machine near the front edge, and measure the bubble. It should be in the center.
  3. If it isn't, move your machine around the area until you find a spot where the bubble on the carpenter's level is halfway between the two lines.
  4. Lift the front or back legs of the machine to level it. Use plastic cups or wood scraps as shims, or wedges, to raise the machine.
  5. Place the carpenter's level over the machine again, and verify that the bubble is in the center.
