Making a Homemade Enema

A homemade enema is an effective way for colon cleansing so you can be confident in your health. Here's what you'll need to make one:

  • Clean, food-grade enema bucket or bag
  • Filtered water
  • Baking soda
  • Optional additions such as olive oil or chamomile tea

Making the Enema Solution

Start by boiling your filtered water for fi ve minutes to ensure that it's germ-free. Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon baking soda in one quart of boiled water for an enema solution. If desired, you can also add 1 to 2 tablespoons of organic olive oil or chamomile tea to the solution for additional relief. Let the solution cool to body temperature.

Preparing for your Enema

Choose a comfortable location for your enema. If you plan to take the enema in a bathtub, fill the tub with lukewarm water. Gather your supplies, including the pre-mixed enema, lubricant, and towels. Apply lubricant to the nozzle of the enema bag.

Administering the Enema

Lay on your side or back on a towel or soft surface. If you are in a bathtub, put your feet on either side of the tub. Insert the nozzle into your rectum and slowly begin pouring the solution, holding the enema bag higher than your body so the solution can easily flow. Slowly depress and release the air valve on the enema bag to ensure a steady flow of the solution. Remove the nozzle as soon as your comfort level has been reached.

Completing the Enema

When you're done, remain in your original position or move to the toilet to expel the solution. If necessary, you can also add a cup of warm water to aid in the expulsion. Immediately after, drink plenty of fluids to replenish electrolytes and hydrate your body.
