Blood plasma is the liquid part of the blood that carries cells and proteins throughout the body and makes up about 55% of the body's total blood volume.

Red blood cells deliver oxygen to the cells and remove carbon dioxide from the tissues. These cells are flexible and oval biconcave disks lacking a cell nucleus and most organelles but filled with haemoglobin.

White blood cells have a nucleus and are capable of motility. They protect the body against infection and disease by ingesting foreign materials and cellular debris and are a part of the immune system.

Platelets are cell fragments that contain proteins on their surface that allow them to stick to breaks in the blood vessel wall and also to stick to each other that is required to stop bleeding.
