A broad leaf herbicide is only effective on dandelions that are going through vegetative growth rather than under stress and in flower stage. It is absorbed through the leaves and broken down by the plant when in growth. Spraying during dormancy or seeding is far from ideal. Using a surfactant will help break through the wax coating on the leaves and give better results.
