  1. Terrestrial animals spend energy looking for water, which is not available easily.
  2. Terrestrial temperature fluctuate widely, so energy investments have to be made to keep body temperatures regulated.
  3. Terrestrial animals have to contend more with gravity. Another drain on energy resource. Water provides buoyancy, which counteracts gravity.
  4. Terrestrial animals have to invest more in acquiring nutrition, aquatic environments have greater diversity and density of life forms.
