The Big Bang means that the Universe evolved from a singularity and the Universe is inflationary, it being finite and unbounded, Einstein had originally postulated the need for a cosmological constant as the Steady state theory was the widely held view and it was believed that the Universe was constant in size. This approach has been discarded and Doppler red shift of spectral lines indicate that the Universe is expanding.
