In case of antipodal beliefs in cosmology and a religion about universe, science could exercise a supervisory control over religion.

Two millenniums ago, Aristarchus could not do that. But Copernicus did it by asserting that our universe is heliocentric. This was further taken nearer to truth by Kepler by seeing Sun at the common focus of all the elliptic orbits in our planetary system..

Of all the faiths, scientific faith allows self-correction. This is the reason for science, forever, getting closer to truth than before.

There is no possibility of making amendments to the tenets documented in sacred books of religions. Any attempt to amend religious dogmas would result in the creation of a new religion, Religion is static and science is dynamic.

I object to the use of battlefield in the question. There is no such warpath in-between cosmology and religions. Opposition is only mild.
