Differentiating a Milk Snake from a Coral Snake

There are a few key differences to bear in mind when trying to identify a milk snake from a coral snake. Check for the following:

  • The size of each snake: milk snakes are usually slimmer and shorter than coral snakes.
  • The type of head: coral snakes have round, blunt heads while milk snakes have narrower heads.
  • The color of the body: coral snakes have distinctive rings of red, yellow, and black around their entire bodies, while milk snakes have bands of red, yellow, and black but the pattern is usually incomplete.

By observing these differences, you will be able to easily identify whether you have a milk snake or a coral snake.
