Attach Sew-On Snaps to your Sewing Project

Adding sew-on snaps to your project can be a great way to give your project a professional, polished look. With a few simple steps, you can easily make this upgrade to almost any project.

Instructions

  1. Start by aligning the snap halves with each other where you would like the closure. Make sure that the part of the snap with the points, or “teeth”, is facing outwards when looking at the wrong side of the fabric.
  2. To attach the snap, push one of the halves through the fabric, and press the fabric down on the underside of the snap. Place the opposite half of the snap onto the back of the fabric, and make sure they line up perfectly.
  3. Once the two halves are aligned properly, place your fingers on the front side of the snap’s base and push firmly inward, against the fabric. You may need to use a thin object like a ruler or chopstick to give more pressure.
  4. Press or tap the wide portion of the snap tool onto the back of the snap halves. This will create a lasting closure of the two pieces of the snap.
  5. You can double-check that the snap is properly closed by lightly pulling on the toggle between the two halves of the snap. If it’s securely closed, the toggle should not move.
