How to orient Google Maps to North
No matter if you're preparing for a lengthy car journey or just checking out the geography of a far-off location, getting Google Maps oriented to North is fairly simple.
To orient Google Maps to North, follow these steps:
- Open up Google Maps on your mobile device or computer. If you're using the mobile app, you may need to sign in with your Google account.
- On the mobile app, tap the three-line menu icon in the top left-hand corner of the screen to open the side menu.
- Scroll down in the side menu until you find the ‘Compass Mode‘ option.
- Tap the 'Compass Mode' option to enable the feature. The Maps will now be oriented to North.
If you’re using a desktop computer, the ‘Compass Mode’ option will appear at the top right-hand corner of the Maps window. Click on this option to enable ‘Compass Mode’.
Once you've got Compass Mode enabled, you should notice a circle with directions located beside the zoom bar in the bottom left-hand corner of the map. These directions represent North, South, East and West.
