Spider crickets are an unwelcome guest in many homes. But, there are steps you can take to be rid of them. Here are 8 strategies to make sure you free your home of these creepy crawlers!
- Inspect outside your home for areas that may be attractive to crickets. Sealing any cracks or small holes will help keep them from coming indoors.
- Repel them by using materials such as cedar chips or cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil and placed outside any entrances to your home.
- Make sure any surface water is cleared away. Spider crickets are attracted to moisture.
- Eliminate any accumulated debris or clutter in your home, which makes an attractive nesting environment for crickets.
- Set out small traps. These should be placed near walls and other areas the crickets may frequent. The traps should also be moistened to attract the crickets.
- Glue traps are also effective. These can be placed in dark, damp areas and will trap the crickets as they attempt to cross it.
- Use boric acid powder when placing the traps. The powder can dry out the crickets and kill them.
- Set off ultrasonic sound devices. These emit a high frequency sound wave that repels crickets, but is inaudible to humans.
