How to Fit a Door Handle

Fitting a door handle can be a quick task with the right tools. Follow these steps to learn how to properly and securely fit a door handle.

  1. Gather the appropriate tools. You will need a door handle, a drill, a screwdriver, and a pair of pliers.
  2. Measure the space between your door's knob hole (where the interior door knob is located) and the hinges. Measure the width of your door handle and make sure it will fit within the measured space.
  3. Remove your old door handle, using either the screwdriver or pliers. Take note of how it is removing, so that you can re-attach the new handle in the same way.
  4. Place the new handle in the panel at the door. Align the holes for the mounting screws with the ones from the old handle.
  5. Secure the handle to the door panel with the mounting screws. Use the screwdriver to tighten the screws evenly, ensuring not to over-tighten them.
  6. Once the handle is fitted correctly, use the drill to put two holes through the door for the handle screws. Make sure that the holes for the screws are at the same height as the mounting screws.
  7. Insert the handle screws into the holes, and use the screwdriver to secure them into the door.
  8. Test the handle to make sure it is firmly fitted and that it will easily open the door.
