How to Fill Out a Checking Deposit Slip

Depositing money into your checking account is an important part of efficient money management. Knowing how to fill out a checking deposit slip correctly is the key to ensuring that your money is received and processed in an accurate and timely manner. Here are a few steps to help you complete the deposit slip correctly:

  • Write your name and account number. The name and account number should match the account you are making the deposit into. It’s important to double-check this information and make sure that it’s correct.
  • Specify if this is a single deposit, or multiple deposits. Write the total deposit amount at the top of the slip and any additional deposits you are making (if applicable) at the bottom. Again, make sure that these numbers are correct.
  • Fill in the checks that you are depositing, if applicable. Provide the check numbers, amount of each check, and check writer’s name. If the check writer’s name is different from your own, make sure to include it.
  • Write the recipient on the slip. If you are depositing the money into your own account, simply write your name or “self.” If you are depositing funds on behalf of someone else, include their name as well.
  • Indicate if you would like to use the deposit towards a loan or an account. Include any other pertinent information that is required by the bank. When you are finished, make sure to review the deposit slip thoroughly to make sure that all of the information is correct.
