How to Defrost an Upright Freezer
Cold temperatures help keep food and beverages fresher in an upright freezer. Frost and ice buildup can reduce this efficiency and create a problem. Over time, a layer of ice can build up if the freezer isn’t defrosted. Fortunately, it’s easy to defrost an upright freezer. Here’s what you need to know.
Instructions
- Turn off the upright freezer and unplug it from the wall socket.
- Remove all the ice and food items. Place them in a cooler or another freezer until the upright freezer is ready for use.
- Clean out the ice and build-up on the walls and shelves of the freezer with a spray bottle or bucket of warm water.
- Fill a container with hot water and place it in the upright freezer. Leave the container in the freezer for about four to six hours.
- Check the freezer after four to six hours have passed. If the buildup is still substantial, you may need to set the freezer temperature to its highest level for a period of time.
- Once you’re done defrosting and all the ice buildup is gone, finish up by cleaning and drying the interior of the freezer with a towel.
- Put the food items and ice back in the upright freezer and plug it into the wall socket.
