How to Convince Your Parents to Get You a Smartphone

For many of us, the idea of getting a smartphone can be exciting and intimidating at the same time. We know that having our very own smartphone opens up lots of possibilities, however, convincing your parents to get you one might not be an easy task.

We have listed some tips that you can consider to help sway your parents and make them agree to get you a smartphone:

• Explain why you need a smartphone. Explain the advantages of a smartphone and how you plan to use the device responsibly. Explain that having a smartphone will offer convenience and safe access to the internet.
• Show initiative. Show your parents that you are mature and responsible enough to handle a smartphone. Show good grades from a school or even better behaviour to prove that you can take on the responsibility.
• Compromise. Offer to take on chores at home or accept additional responsibilities in order to demonstrate that you are ready for more independence. Offer to pay for extra features or to help with the bill if necessary.
• Set up limits. Make sure to tell your parents the expectations in regards to usage. Set time limits, rules, and restrictions and stick to them to assure your parents that you are ready to handle a smartphone.
• Be patient. Your parents might decide to take some time to think about it, go over it with each other, or discuss it with you further. Let them know that you respect their decision and agree to wait.
