How to Clean a Gas Fireplace

Whether the air around your gas fireplace has a faint smell of smoke or there is visible dirt buildup, it may be time to give your fireplace a thorough cleaning. With the right supplies and knowledge you can have your gas fireplace clean in no time.

Steps

  1. Turn off the gas supply and remove the logs from the fire surround.
  2. Vacuum loose debris on the interior walls of the fireplace, the fire surround and any other accessible parts. Be sure to work slowly and to carefully avoid any electrical or gas components.
  3. Using a damp cloth, wipe away any soot or dirt buildup from the interior walls of the fireplace.
  4. Using special care and attention, remove glass panels, replaceable reflectors, refractors, and any other easily removable components. Wipe them off with a damp cloth and all-purpose cleaner. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and towel dry.
  5. Replace the removed components, being sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
  6. Clean glass, using a damp cloth and non-abrasive glass cleaner. Do not soak the glass, as this may cause damage.
  7. Replace the logs in the fire surround.
  8. Switch on the gas supply and test the fireplace.
