Caring for a Goldfish Plant
The goldfish plant (Columnea microphylla) is a dwarf tropical shrub, native to Central and South America. It is an ideal house plant, boasting unique, bright flowers that make it an eye-catching addition to any home. Properly caring for a goldfish plant helps it thrive and ensures it keeps its lush, vibrant look.
Instructions
- Light: Give the goldfish plant bright, indirect light for at least six hours per day. The more light the better - goldfish plants need light to bloom.
- Water: Let the soil dry out between waterings. During the growing season water frequently enough so that the soil is always slightly moist. In winter, reduce watering to once a month.
- Fertilizer: Feed the goldfish plant during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer applied every two weeks. In winter, fertilizer is not necessary.
- Humidity: Increase humidity levels around the goldfish plant by misting it frequently or placing it on a tray filled with gravel and water.
- Temperature: The ideal temperature for a goldfish plant is between 60-80℉. Avoid placing it near cold drafts or drafty windows.
- Pruning: Prune the goldfish plant by pinching off dead or diseased branches and flower buds. This will help promote new growth and keep the plant looking healthy.
